Saia Motor Freight Line Truck Accident Attorney

Louis Saia founded Saia Motor Freight Line in 1924 in Houma, Louisiana, transporting produce using the family car with the seats removed. Saia grew, and by 1970, the company expanded throughout Louisiana and into Texas. Today, the company is the largest LTL (less than load) carrier in America, providing services throughout the Southeast United States through twenty-three terminals.

Preston Trucking purchased the company in 1987, and by 1993, Yellow Corporation bought Preston. A few years later, Smalley Transportation merged with Yellow Corp.-owned Saia, expanding the company into western Texas, South Carolina, and North Carolina. By 2002, Yellow Corp.-subsidiary Jevic Transportation and Saia spun off to what is today SCST.

Today, the company operates 163 terminals throughout Canada and forty-one states in America. Saia also provides deliveries to Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Mexico through its network of partners. In 2018, Saia Motor Freight Line generated an annual gross revenue of $1,405,000,000. The company’s 5221 truck drivers operate more than 5040 trucks. The company does not transport hazardous material.

Saia Motor Freight Line is primarily a Truckload (LT) carrier, meaning the company delivers one truckload containing similar products, goods, and materials to multiple locations. This type of trucking is the opposite of an LTL (less than truckload) carrier with a mixed freight.

Common Causes of Commercial Vehicle Collisions

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) statistics reveal that accidents involving large commercial and vehicles in America involve:

  • Aggressive Behavior – Aggressively operating a vehicle could result in wrongful death or severe injuries of innocent passengers and motorists.
  • Driving Under the Influence – Truckers must avoid consuming alcohol or taking illegal drugs, including stimulants, which can create a dangerous scenario for all those sharing the road.
  • Distracted Driving – Truckers are often distracted while looking at their GPS device, talking on a smartphone, reading text messages or emails, or eating/drinking beverages while driving.
  • Drowsy Driving – Truckers often work long hours under grueling conditions and erratic scheduling. A failure to get enough sleep before getting behind the wheel could cause catastrophic results.

Sometimes, the commercial trucker is found to be responsible for causing an accident because of their erratic movements because they are tired, fatigued, or meeting the demands of the tight schedule. In these cases, lawyers can obtain financial compensation for their clients because they proved the trucker, and the trucking company failed to maintain a safe environment for those sharing the roadway, which led to an accident.

Saia Motor Freight Line Accidents with Injuries and Fatalities

There are nearly 500,000 accidents involving commercial vehicles, including delivery trucks and big rigs each year, resulting in more than 5000 fatalities. Many motorists are aware of the presented dangers of driving around large vehicles on streets, roads and freeways. Both the motorist and a truck driver can create an unsafe environment by abruptly changing lanes, maneuvering improperly when making a right or left turn, or failing to slow down or speed up when merging or changing lanes.

Like all commercial vehicle companies in the trucking industry, Saia Motor Freight Line must ensure their deliveries are on time to remain competitive. Unfortunately, staying on schedule often requires the trucker to work long hours in tight constraints during hazardous weather conditions. This added pressure can place the trucker, motorists, passengers, pedestrians, motorcycles, and bicyclists at risk of serious harm, injury, or wrongful death.

Financial Remedy for an Injury or Wrongful Death-Related to a Truck Crash

Any victim has suffered an injury or lost a loved one because of a large commercial truck accident can file a lawsuit and seek damages from every party at fault. You can resolve your case successfully if you abide by Texas tort laws when presenting a case in front of a judge or filing a claim with the insurance company adjuster. These cases tend to be highly complex. In nearly all circumstances, the victim will submit a claim for compensation or file a lawsuit against all responsible parties to ensure their case to settle through negotiation out of court or litigation in front of a judge.

Any victim can file a truck accident claim if they have been injured or suffered losses, or wrongful death. A full recovery will ensure they have adequate compensation for:

  • Ongoing medical bills and hospital costs
  • Past, present and future earnings because of a permanent or temporary disability
  • Rental vehicle expenses while your car or truck is under repair
  • The cost of replacement of your total car or truck
  • Mental stress and emotional anguish
  • Pain and suffering
