Central Freight Lines Truck Accident Attorney
W.W. “Woody” Callan founded Central Freight Lines (CFL) in 1925 in Waco, Texas, after purchasing a Ford Model T to drive freight from Dallas to Waco for a local merchant. Mr. Callan named the business Central Forwarding and Warehouse Company. Two years later, the company started regular routes to Austin and Dallas/Fort Worth. By 1938 the company’s Dallas facility became the largest global freight facility.
Woody’s son Woodie Callan, Jr. became the third president of the company in 1979. By 1984, the business purchased Perry Motor Freight and Curry Motor Freight, and by 1991, received authority to operate in all forty-eight Continental states in America. In 1999, the Company acquired Jaguar Fast Freight, Arizona Carrier, and Sacramento, CA-based expanding their services into Nevada and California. CFL Network expended the business to 49 states in 2009.
In 2018, the company generated annual revenue of more than $263 million. Central Freight Lines is a Truckload (LT) carrier, meaning the company delivers one truckload containing similar products, goods, and materials to multiple locations. This type of trucking is opposite an LTL (less than truckload) carrier with a mixed freight. In 2013, the company purchased 100 Freightliner semi-tractors that operate on compressed natural gas (CNG) and 400 28-foot Pup trailers. These new Freightliner commercial vehicles added to their more than 1750 trucks operated by 1518 drivers.

Common Causes of a Large Commercial Truck Accident
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) statistics reveal that accidents involving large commercial and vehicles in America involve:
- Distracted Driving – Trucker should avoid the trappings of driving over an extended time, like talking on their mobile device or sending text messages, which could lead to distracted driving.
- Driving Under the Influence – Operating a motor vehicle after consuming too much alcohol or taking illegal drugs can create a dangerous situation for everyone sharing the roadway.
- Failing to Calculate the Commercial Truck’s Approaching Speed – Most accidents involving a left turn are the result of the motorist’s inability to process the speed and depth of oncoming traffic. When a passenger vehicle turns into the pathway of an oncoming commercial vehicle, the results are often deadly.
- Aggressive Behavior – Aggressive behavior by any driver involved in a crash could result in serious injuries or wrongful death of innocent drivers or passengers.
- Tailgating – Driving too close in front of the car or large commercial vehicle ahead puts the motorists and passengers at risk should that vehicle come to a quick stop. Tailgating often failed to anticipate how much distance and time will need to halt without causing a crash. Additionally, tailgating obstructs the trucker’s view that there is a vehicle close behind.
- Drowsy Driving – Maintaining tight schedules often means the trucker must drive for hours on end, which can lead to fatigue and drowsy driving.
Sometimes, a commercial vehicle driver will cause an accident because of erratic movements, or they were fatigued, having worked too many hours on a tight schedule. In these cases, both the trucking company and the truck driver should be held legally responsible for the crash and pay all associated costs and expenses that led to the wrongful death or severe injury.
